“ Whenever we pass by @sushanjifansusan, there always seems to be a bunch of people outside the restaurant either waiting to dine in or get their takeaway orders, so we came a bit earlier than the dinner crowd to try out their Singapore and Malaysian dishes. Food and drinks were served almost immediately after we had placed our order on the mobile website. [Hainan Half Chicken Set] This classic set came with a bowl of soothing winter melon soup and fragrant oil rice (or plain rice if you want to skip the chicken fat). We were feeling pretty hungry, so we devoured all the succulent tender chicken in no time. Apart from the boneless pieces, there was also a juicy chicken wing that I enjoyed dipping into the sweet soy sauce. The ginger scallion sauce was on the mild side while the chilli sauce was too spicy for my delicate taste buds. [Free Range Chicken Rice with White Pepper Bak Kut Teh ] If you have a hard time making up your mind (like me), this combination is the best choice as you get to taste both of their signature dishes. The free range chicken was topped with fried shallots for more flavor, so essentially there was no need to dip any of the condiments. The cucumber slices and bean sprouts added a crunchy texture to the dish. As for the white pepper bak kut teh, it was rather pungent and spicy, but less medicinal and herbal than the Malaysian-style version. The tofu puffs had absorbed the rich fragrant broth that was super filling. [Stir-Fried Belacan Brussels Sprouts Leaves] Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of belacan (Malaysian fermented shrimp paste), but my friend insisted on ordering this to meet our veggie count of the day. Luckily, there was a non-spicy option, which definitely made the huge bowl of brussels sprouts leaves more enjoyable to me. [Iced Young Coconut] Don’t think I’ve really been keeping track, but this is most probably one of the best young coconuts I’ve ever had! True to its name, the sweet coconut water really was ice cold, making it a refreshing drink perfect for a hot summer night. [Milo Dinosaur] If you’re wondering, the ‘dinosaur’ refers to a big scoop of undissolved Milo powder added on top of the iced chocolate malt drink. And if you look closely, you’ll see that there’s even a pinch of colorful sprinkles in this one. We were quite impressed by the rich flavor that was not utterly sugary. “ Looking for a hainan chicken place at Cheung Sha Wan Area? You should check out Susan Chicken! Their recommendations are the hainan chicken rice and the 肉骨茶 bak kut teh. I ordered a bowl of seafood laksa noodles and a plate of belachan stir fried young Brussels sprout with two pineapple mint drinks along with the 2 recommendations. . The hainan chicken was soooo tender even the chicken breasts were tender!! We ordered half a chicken and managed to finish ALL of it. . For the 肉骨茶 bak kut teh, we added $5 to upgrade to oil rice and I could proudly say that was the best decision we made It was finger-licking good. The taste of the chicken really sunk in but it wasn’t too heavy/ oily. The proportion of the rice was also huge. Not your average rice bowl. The soup was also good but I would prefer it to be more peppery. The stuffed tofu puff really absorbed the soup which made it extra delicious. It also came with 油炸鬼 for you to eat with the soup. It was surprisingly good!! . The laksa noodles were acceptable but did not wow me. There were a ton of seafood though! . The veggies were slightly undercooked and too salty for my liking. . “ Susan chicken rice in Cheung Sha Wan is well-known for its Hainanese chicken rice. Overheard other customers were also their repeat guests. Order is by QR code and they offer customized options such as the amount of rice, noodles and sweetness of drinks etc. Light Bak Kut Soup $48 Herbal pork rib soup. Based on the Singaporean Teochew version which features a lighter broth with strong peppery flavor. Tasted dong quai, cinnamon and star anise as well. Enough for 2 people to share. Sanbao Meal (Hainanese Chicken, Pork Knuckle, Braised Egg) $88 Wanted to try more of their signature dishes so I picked the sanbao option. The chicken was cooked in a sauce made with dried mushrooms, scallops and 20 kinds of herbs. Savory aroma. The rice was mixed with chicken oil and pandan - flavorful but not greasy, not soggy nor too dry. The egg and pork knuckle were braised in lo sui. Both had soaked up the complex flavors of the sauce. Very tender pork meat. Gelatinous skin and tendons that melted in my mouth! Laksa Tsaam Tsaam $55 Didn't expect to be such a huge bowl even it was only an afternoon tea portion! Shrimp, mussel, fish ball and fried tofu all came in double plus half an egg. The soup was rich with a lot of coconut milk. Delicious. Ipoh Bean Sprouts with Chicken Giblets $45 Sweet fat bean sprouts loaded with crunchy chicken gizzards. Mild sauce which made it a versatile dish to enjoy with the rice and noodles. Fresh Coconut $35 So huge! Love the natural sweetness and slightly nutty flavor. So refreshing and hydrating. The seasoning and marinade of all dishes were perfect for me as I always avoid something too salty or with too much MSG. All in all a great place for people who want some healthier recipes of Singaporean cuisine. ”

“ The Flame Coconut Chicken Pot is surprised me, the portion would be enough for 2 ppls, a fragrant and flavorful dish cooked in a clay pot with rice wine. The soup stock is made from fresh chicken, coconut, and coconut water, is rich and aromatic. Nearly half tender Hainanese chicken is in the pot and accompanied by fragrant yellow rice, creating a satisfying meal. Another must-try is the Spicy Prawn Noodles with Spare Ribs, featuring a generous portion of noodles immersed in a savory and slightly spicy broth made with fresh prawns and pork bones which made so tasty . Both are delicious ”

“ Susan chicken rice 蘇山雞飯 (Cheung Sha wan) I’m so surprised by the quality of this small restaurant!! The chicken was sooo tender matched with the 油飯 oil rice!! The rice is one of my best oil rice I’ve had The sauce was perfection as well. My favourite is the spicy one in the middle. The 肉骨茶 bak kut teh a pork rib dish cooked in broth infused in herbs. The soup was hearty and delicious but the part that amazed me The most was the Chinese fried dough sticks that can be dipped into the soup or the sweet spicy sauce in black. Just SO GOOD!! A must try!! We also ordered the Susan chicken wings which is their chef’s special. We ordered 4 for $44 expecting four chicken wings... turns out we got 4 wings and 4 drumsticks!! Such a value for money dish!! However the taste was quite plain, didn’t have anything special to it. Last but not least.. the pineapple lime soda!! It’s the best pineapple soda I’ve ever had. Dunno how they do it but it’s so crazily good and addictive. Only have to add $12 if you get it in a set. The soda gives you two cups worth of the drink! ”
